Joan T. Whitaker

Joan T. Whitaker INDIANAPOLIS - 85, passed away June 26, 2018. She was born August 23, 1932 in Manhattan, NY, to the late Peter and Catherine Gallagher. She was an entrepreneur who owned A&D Income Tax for 36 years, retiring in 2013. Joan was a member of the National Society of Tax Professionals. Her greatest accomplishment was her large family whom she loved unconditionally. She spoiled her grandkids and great grandkids (including passing along her tricks to winning games – also called cheating) much to their parent’s chagrin. She was loved in return by her family and friends. She loved to text her children and grandchildren all day long and was the Queen of Crossword Puzzles. Joan is survived by her children Catherine Gilliam (Jeff), Peter J. Whitaker, Michael Whitaker, Daniel L. Whitaker (Karen) and Julie L. Powell (the late Charles L.); step-children, Steven P. Taylor (Waylang), Laura L. Gunderman (Richard) and Scott C. Taylor (Juliet); grandchildren, Toshua Lane, Shannon Tynes (Andre), Mikayla, Elijah, Robert, Kevin, Mark, Stephen (Tara) and Andrea Whitaker, and Christy Krause (Brian), Keith, Sean, and Kathryn Taylor, Rebecca Cisneros (partner Mike Sinclair), Peter, David, and John Gunderman, Bryce Patrick Taylor, Kylie Calaque Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Cadence and Ace Lane, Mariah, Jayda and Londyn Tynes, Jaydon Whitaker, Kiera, Chloe and Clint Whitaker, Indianna Rose Krause, Penelope Cisneros, Sterling Sinclair. Her nieces and nephews Elaine and David, Lisa Beck, Sue Horn (the late Marty), the Jim Cronin (Nancy), Donna Stise, Michael Cronin, Joan was preceded in death by her partner of 41 years, Patrick R. Taylor on June 13, 2018; her siblings James Gallagher, Theresa Cronin and Richard Gallagher; son-in-law, Charles L. Powell; and grandson, Charlie C. Powell; niece Karen Blanchard; late husbands Dennis D. Whitaker and Donald Bauer. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3:00 at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E.
