Joan H Brown

76, of Fishers died March 30, 2011. Joan was born on March 31, 1934 to Rev. Augustus Garland Hinkle and Mary (Liebert) Hinkle at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois. Joan was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1952. As a result of her work at the hospital during high school years, her interest in Nursing was piqued. She was fortunate to win a scholarship to Knox College in Galesburg, IL, graduating in 1957 with a B.S. in Nursing. At this time, well-meaning cherished friends introduced Wayne of Aledo, IL to Joan, and they married on March 16, 1958, at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. During their 53 years of marriage, Joan�s career was as a busy, loving spouse, parent, and active church and community volunteer. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Col. (Ret.) James Robert Hinkle and Garland Liebert Hinkle; and son, Scott Wayne Brown. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne; daughters Jill Elise Brueckheimer (Jeffrey) of Plymouth, MI, and Connie Joan Murray of Fishers, IN, and an especially bright and loving grandson, Sean Paul Murray, of Fishers, IN. Growing up as a minister�s daughter, Joan became used to meeting people of all ages in a variety of situations. She observed and learned the importance of serving others at an early age. Her hallmarks were friendliness, kind words, smiles and a ready laugh for all she encountered. Joan enjoyed church involvement and friends�. served as an Ordained Deacon and active member of women�s groups, Sunday school classes, choir and Bible studies through the years. She volunteered in the community through school activities, a YWCA committee, resale shop, a driver for cancer patients, and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter LB in IL and Chapter AF in IN. Serving in various P.E.O. offices and committees, she found great friendships and personal satisfaction as this philanthropy assists women by providing funds for furthering their education. Joan and Wayne moved from Aurora, IL to Fishers, IN in 2004 to be near family with a grandson. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN at 2:00 p.m. on Monday April 4, 2011, preceded by a visitation in the parlor starting at 1:00 p.m. A celebration-of-life gathering will also be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Aurora, IL on April 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The remains will be buried at Aledo, IL at a future date.
