Jack L. Atwood

Jack L. Atwood, Age 86, was called to his eternal home with the Lord on August 6, 2024. Jack was born on July 18, 1938, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania to the late Frank W. and Anna Rea (Emminger) Atwood. He graduated from Kittanning High School and served three years in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Korea. In 1962, Jack married the love of his life, Judith Anna Greenawalt. Together they moved to Florida, where they lived for 35 years and raised four children. Jack worked in Restaurant Management and Hospitality throughout his time in Florida. In retirement, he and Judy moved to Indianapolis to be close to their children and grandchildren. There, he came out of retirement and he and Judy managed the Indianapolis Yacht Club, as well they worked together at Shirley Brothers Funeral Home. Jack was an active member of Holy Spirit Geist Catholic Church, participating in the GHOST Theater Group, singing in the 9:30 choir, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and member of Men’s Cursillo Group #87. Jack loved spending time with family and friends. He spent much of his time with his grandchildren, traveling with Judy, and celebrating life with his family. He was a loving, proud father of four, grandfather of twelve, and great-grandfather of one. Jack is survived by bride of 62 years, Judy; his daughter, Stacy (Gary) Crays; one son, Ronald (Umparo) Atwood; two brothers, Don and Greg; sister, Carol; grandchildren, Joshua Atwood (Oyster), Jenna Tarczon (Kevin), Jordan, Jill, Janie, Julie, Joe, Stefan (Alyssa), Olivia (Drue), Liam (Gabby), Chaz (Taylor), and Tristen; and great-granddaughter, Leah Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Rea Atwood; brothers, Frank, Jr., Larry, Bill, Mike, Joe, and Rob; and his sons, Jackie and Ricky. Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, IN 46037. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassus Indianapolis Hospice Care, 8450 North Payne Road, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46268. Jack’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
