William "Bill" E. Earl

William Edward Earl (Bill) Age 71, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2010, after a battle with liver cancer. He was the son of James Daniel and Anna Lou (Thurman) Earl of Brown County, both deceased. He was the loving husband of Sally Ann (Thiesing) Earl for nearly 48 years and the father of four children: Deborah E., Laura M. and Stephen W. Earl, and Christa Earl Phelps; four grandchildren: Michael W. ,Emily E. and Anne M. Phelps, and Charles N. Wishart; two great-grandchildren: Michael J. Phelps and Haiden C. Redinger; brother, Robert A. Earl; sisters, Velma Lee and Jennie Robertson. A sister, Jessie Lee and two brothers, both with muscular dystrophy, Tommy and Louis Earl, preceded Bill in death. Bill was manager of Annuity New Business when he retired from American United Life Insurance Company (now One America) in 2002 after 39 years. He was a member of the Association of Certified Life Underwriters, worked in Human Resources and as a trainer. He served on the Mayor’s Private Industry Council, was president of the Alumni Council of Franklin College and the Alumni Association of Brown County High Schools. Bill served on the executive council for P.Y.O.C.A Presbyterian Youth Camp, was an adjunct professor for the University of Indianapolis in the M.B.A. program and was an elder and former Clerk of Session at both, Center Grove Presbyterian Church and Wallace Street Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel, 3333 E. Thompson Rd. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Center Grove Presbyterian Church, 2340 S. SR 135, Greenwood, with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Center Grove Presbyterian Church of which Bill and Sally were members.
